125. Thoughts on the Democratic Debate

The Democratic debate tonight in New Hampshire only backs up my thoughts about the party. Democrats want to provide everything for free. Free healthcare, free college, free everything. It’s just not realistic, and I am tired of hearing the justification as being, “every other country provides free everything, why not us?” Because we are the United States of America, that’s why! We are not every other country. We are different, and we are a land that requires our workforce to EARN their benefits. They are only rights if you have earned them. Our work ethic dates back to the earliest periods of American colonization, and exploded in the 1950s following the end of World War II. We cannot compromise the same values that made this nation.

Secondly, there is this thought amongst the Democrats that the poor are treated unfairly. The reality is that unless you were born into a wealthy family, everyone starts at age 18 with the same opportunities. You become an adult as either a middle or lower class citizen, and then you either succeed from there or you don’t. Everyone starts with a clean slate. If the person fails to succeed, it is not the government’s responsibility to ensure their quality of life. There must be personal accountability on behalf of the individual.

Thirdly, they always scream out the fact that, “the top 1% are wealthier than the other 99%.” Why should this be changed? In this country, if you EARN your wealth through labor, ingenuity, innovation, and work ethic, then you shouldn’t EVER feel guilty about your wealth. Just because someone wants to work at McDonald’s and beg your pity because they make minimum wage doesn’t mean that the person making a $15 million salary is the bad guy for being successful. It’s called Capitalism – the very principle that our country’s economy is based upon that ensures for-profit businesses aren’t regulated or restricted from unlimited profit-making activities.

And just to be clear – the CEO is just as valuable as the carpenter. In the modern era, that’s just the way it is.
